Area 51
The AREA 51 series first began as a light gun-****d arcade shooter game, and now Midway has brought the series to the Pc Games as a first person shooter along the lines of HALO and DOOM. The game revolves around HAZMAT operative Ethan Cole, who has been summoned to Area 51 to discover the source of a deadly virile outbreak. He soon discovers that the staff of the secret alien research **** has mutated into deadly, dangerous enemies. Even worse, Ethan himself quickly becomes infected. While the game is a fairly straight-forward first person shooter involving blasting everything that moves while searching for keys, secret codes, and other clues, it does have some interesting twists. Once Ethan becomes infected with the virus, he gains the ability to mutate into a stronger form complete with two ranged attacks. The visuals also change, taking on an almost infra-red interface. Once the single-player missions are finished, AREA 51 offers gamers a multiplayer mode that accommodates up to 16 players. Several different options are available, including deathmatch, capture the flag, and infection, in which players can play as mutants and attempt to infect the human players. There are also unlockable secrets that can be found by scanning ******s, , computer workstations, and corpses. While AREA 51 has been absent from the arcade for awhile, first person shooter fans will immediately latch on to its Pc Games version. Fans of THE X-FILES should also check it out to hear star David Duchovny voice Ethan Cole.

Civilization IV
Let's get it out of the way right at the start: the only reason to stop playing Civilization IV is to tell other people just how good the game is. We here at IGN have been playing the game almost non-stop since we got our first playable versions. The first time we laid hands on the game we felt that Firaxis was doing something special with the series. As newer, more complete builds came our way, our expectations for the game only grew. After having spent a lot of time playing through the final version, we can safely say that Civilization IV is the best version of Civilization yet.
The first thing you need to understand is that Civilization IV is a fundamental reinvention of the franchise. Fans should be assured that all the basic concepts from Civilization are still here, but many of the more obnoxious or troublesome elements have been greatly improved upon. City production, combat, and culture have all been tweaked to allow for more intuitive application within the game. Concepts like civil disorder, predictable tech paths, pollution and the creeping pace of the late game have all benefited from substantial revisions that make them more manageable and enjoyable aspects of your strategy.
On top of these revisions, Civilization IV finally offers up a presentation worthy of the gameplay. A new graphics engine adds life and charm to the world, making the experience really come alive. The interface elements have all been refined to ease access and readability. A wealth of fantastic music highlights the entire experience with a pitch-perfect voiceover assist from Leonard Nimoy.

Kill Switch
It's a pretty *******ing experience to stumble upon a game with little-to-no fanfare only to discover that it's more fun than you originally bargained for. Of course during our busiest of seasons, it's not really that unique of an occurrence, but it doesn't take away from the fact that we get an oh-so pleasant feeling each and every time that it happens. Such is the case with Namco's intense military shooter kill.switch; a futuristic polar opposite of popular titles like Splinter Cell and ****l Gear Solid.
Best described as a mix between the Guy Pierce motion picture Memento and a solo version of EA's Freedom Fighters, kill.switch has an interesting and compelling premise: that is, to take a one man commando and use him to start a devastating and all-encompassing global conflict. As you progress through the game's six missions and 15 different s***es, more and more information about your rewired hi-tech soldier becomes available to you; presented through a bizarrely-directed flashback that reveals a longer piece of what really happened each time you see it. Needless to say, things are definitely not what they seem.
